best beaches to LIVE near

peace and blessings, family!

i just arrived in costa rica for my first endless summer! i want to rent a little place on the beach, or super close walking distance to the beach, in a walking neighborhood, but that also has semi-secluded stretches of beach. i primarily want to be in an area that's safe and secure, and yeah, easy beach access is essential. oh, so is wifi.

many have said that i'll dig puerto viejo, but from what i've read, montezuma sounds pretty right-on, too. i like to be around kind, loving, hippie vibes, and want to avoid predatorial or agro energy. our there any enclaves of coolness that happen to be on a beach? 'cause that would be sick...

also, what are the best sources to search for rentals (for 3 months or more)?

thanks, you guys! i've only been here a few hours, but i love it here!

pura vida!

thanks for

Kitchen Manager position available on Organic Sustainable Farm/Educational Center/Community

Punta Mona, Center for Sustainable Living and Education is looking for a motivated and inspired Kitchen Manager to work on our Organic Farm. Punta Mona is an intentional community where we practice sustainability and Permaculture. Currently, we have 10 staff members. Interns flow in and out monthly and there are up to 15 at any time. The Kitchen Manager would be responsible for planning 3 meals a day while directing interns and other kitchen help to facilitate feeding 20 - 65 people. It will be up to you to manage your team accordingly. Cooking/cleaning and maintenance of the kitchen will be your responsibility.

The kitchen manager will be cooking over a wood fire for 2 meals a day (gas stove for breakfast). He/she will be in charge of directing and educating the interns in the kitchen. Please be willing to learn about the edible farm food and working with our agricultural manager in incorporating the food in our meals. We get new visitors everyday and the kitchen manager will have to adjust to feeding new guests, sometimes with only a few minutes notice. You will be living communally. Our intern/staff housing is shared. The property runs on solar energy (there is limited internet access and none when there is cloud cover), a rainwater catchment system is used for drinking & cooking water and we use composting toilets. This is off the grid living.

Our farm is located between Manzanillo and Gandoca on the Southern Caribbean Coast. We are right on a beautiful, private beach in a jungle nature-reserve. The land is truly incredible and it is a privilege to live here. To get to Punta Mona it is a gorgeous, scenic 1 1⁄2 hour hike in the jungle or a 20-minute boat ride. If you like the idea of being a bit cut off and living with a community that is ever transient this is the place for you!

In your free time you can swim, kayak, snorkel, garden, learn about sustainable practices, hike in the jungle or just lay in a hammock.

3-month minimum commitment. $250 per month. Includes meals, lodging and limited Internet access.

Position is available ASAP. Please write us an email about why you would be the best candidate for this position and what you would like to offer our community.
Please help- Need to find community in Costa Rica ASAP!!!

Greetings! I have been contemplating and feeling a call from Costa Rica for years now. It was not until three months ago when I conceived my first baby that I felt the intense fire to respond to the calling. I am now a single young, pregnant lady who wishes to thrive in an environment that is supportive of nurturing oneself and others. I have experience and a gift for working with plants and children as well as movement and other creative endevours that are not as developed as the first mentioned. I have studied herbalism and children's yoga and recently ended a job teaching after school to K-5th grades. I was teaching 8 different classes consisting of cooking, chess, mask making, art, drama, rhythm and dance, likable recyclables and stitchin'. I am hoping to meet a community or individuals to share with or join. Ideally I will find a spot close to the ocean and ecologically minded, where parents and children live close together supporting each other. A community/ group of supportive people is no longer a simple desire, but a necessity as I am now pregnant and single. I could work in a garden, with an herbalist, as a teacher or in various other positions. I have never been to Costa Rica and am not sure where to begin searching for a new home beyond seeking community. Any information applicable to a potential community to join, a job to work, a place to live, etc. is greatly appreciated. Thank you and many blessings.

Hello,

I am new . I have heard many stories of how lavish it is in Costa Rica. How you can live and actually have servants etc... with an income of $1000.00 per month. Realistically speaking I wanted the inside scoop on the situation down there.

Thank you so much.

Fire spinners and rave party entertainers needed!

I am hosting a large party / rave in the jungle in the Tamarindo or Playa Conchal area on November 27 or 28 for 150 really fun and crazy people. It's going to be SUPER fun. We plan to have lots of live entertainment, very Burning Man-esque. If you are a skilled fire spinner or have another great party entertainment skill, such as face or body painting, can walk on stilts or some other fun and crazy thing I haven't even thought of, please let me know. I'm open to any ideas at this point.

The group I'm hosting is coming in from NYC, Europe and Latin America to do some volunteer work in the community with schools and the environment. We want to show them a really good time.

This would be a paid gig. You would not be expected to work for free. Thanks for the help! Contact me at scott@tropicaladventures.com please.

glad to have found you! very interested- many questions......

having found this group only moments ago, and scanned through reading the posts, it would seem that there is a definite following of
like mided people assembling there and the build-up of excitement is rivaled only by the numerous questions piling up in my mind,
so if any of you could be so kind as to take a moment from what seems to be nearly paradise, to answer the ones you may
know about specifically, or have personal experience with, it would be much appriciated!!

I guess the best place to start is to explain where Im coming from and my goal in life that led to me find and be potentially interested in doing what many
of you have done.
(also check-out my profile and groups for an additional clue if you like)
Im 31, single, and a generally counter-culture type. I live in a relatively inexpensive area of the US, making it possible for me to own the apartment I live in and a house that I rent out. I am not formally trained in any specific trade or profession, rather I can do a little bit of everything- mainly so that I donot have
to pay anyone to do it for me (i do all my own auto-mechanical work, I completely remodled and re-wired my rental house, I build my own numerous computers from discarded parts, etc. etc.) self sufficiency is my goal, and I would like to get to the point where I live as inexpensively and independently
as possible. I am increasingly scared of what the US is becoming, and I donot want to continue to grind and struggle to acheive something Im not real excited about anyway. I would consider myself to be quite the hermit but I feel like that has more to do with there being a complete lack of like-minded
people around me than anything else.

this is why I am interested.

now knowing what you know...
is costa rica, and possibly an intentional community there for me?

*do I need a visa or immigration papers or something like that?

*is there no mountain of paperwork and BS or years of waiting to do what you've done?

*how does the cost of living compare?

*how expensive is medical care?

*how hard is it to get by considering it's aparrently illegal for non cost-ricans to work?

*are there land taxes, building permits/regulations in the semi-rural areas?

*is there some sort of quarantine or other BS my pets would have to go through?

this is the tip of the iceberg, but I'll take it slow...

THANKS! for your time!

My boyfriend and his best friend left for Costa Rica Saturday, to surf around the Nicoya Penninsula area (I think Playa Negro was a main destination). He promised to call or email myself and his family from there, but we have receieved no word. He is very responsible and would not want his family and friends to worry, so the fact that he has not contacted us is very worrisome. Does anyone live near this area that can tell me if there are phones and internet cafes that he could use? I just want to know if this is just a case of him being in a remote area and therefore unable to contact us, so I know how to procede from there. Thanks in advance for any responses.

mass meditation for peace

Hello Friends, I am wanting to organize a mass meditation for peace, and I am doing it via tribe. We know that our minds are very powerful, well let's start using them to bring about the positive changes neccessary in our world. Ya interested?? I am asking that everyone dedicate at least 20 min. to this practice on the same day. I was thinking maybe at sunset. That way our vibes that we are putting out will be assisted by the pull of the sun into darkness. Any ideas of how to enhance ones practice is welcome and should be shared by all. If the time of day doesn't work, one should do so when they can, it would still add so much to the force of love that we will be sending out. How does Sunday June 11th sound?? Please send this messege to as many people as possible. Lets work in service with eachother in bringing peace to this world in the way we are meant to. In rhythm with the Infinite * * *

Fly Fiji= ~Elegant Integrity~ The UltraLight FloatPlain DVD

So... as I am currently unable to get my altitude adjustment due to location here in Southern Oregon...I have resorted to living the dream of flight vicariously through the video footage I have compiled over the last four years of flying over the incredibly gorgeous reefs of the SouthPacific. Fiji to be exact. We are Part-time, seasonal residents of the country ands have been hard at work building a house and setting ourselves up to do some groundbreaking flights in my brothers M2 Sprint with Full-Lotus Floats. With his BFI in hand, we are free to fly and Film some of the most amazing land and sea-scapes this planet has to offer. I have spent the last summer working on the production of the FlyFiji Movie...Elegant Integrity. A half hour long DVD full of incredibly grand views, a bit of surfing(Fly-Surfing, actually), Photo Slideshow, and smooth soundtrack. Trying to describe the view above a coral reef paradise to someone who hasn't seen it, is like trying to explain a moving sunset to a blindman...Even an accomplished poet would be hesitant!
~All you have to do is contact me through this here Tribe~net, and you can share in the experience of gliding over the reefs of the tropical SouthPacific ....
As always, Its our point of view that determines our fate~
Blessings,
Jahvan

as we are gathering information and energy about this area, i am open to hearing from anyone who lives there- do you love it? what has your experience been of living there? we are a family with three kids, organic gardeners and chicken keepers, teachers, our kids go to waldorf school and home school, and we currently live in a place that it cold and damp most of the year. and unfortunately the cuteness of the town has turned it into a pristine tourist attraction that has become too unaffordable for us to live here!! so with all that said, i'm obviously just trying to figure out if this is the dream move that i think it will be (with some adventure, of course!)!!! maybe some of you can help paint a fuller picture for me...

Hi there folks! This is going to be cross posted on different tribes so I apologize to those of you that are seeing it multiple times.

I currently live in TX and am a certified art teacher. I unfortunately am only being hired on as a paraprofessional again(read: teacher helper) and feel that I am not going to be growing and helping kids in the manner that I know I can fulfill. It's very frustrating so I am trying to change it. I am looking to teach in Costa Rica but would rather not teach English. This is most of what I'm finding. I love alternative forms of education, progressive schools/communities etc. I would really love any and all ideas that ya'll may have on opportunities. My husband and I also surf so a beach community would be ideal. I know I'm being really specific but I figure if I want to be happy, I shouldn't settle. Any intentional communities that need an art teacher? My focus is in ceramics but I am very flexible in my abilities.

Thanks so much and hope ya'll are well!

Hello.

I've been looking for information on Costa rica for this project for school (Making a Travel brochure). I can't find what the prices are for The Rico Tico Bar n' Grill. I keep finding "the prices are included with the room tab," which isn't very helpful, Do you need a room at the hotel in order to eat at the restaurant? Does anyone know what the address of the restaurant is?
I'm having the same problem finding info on The Claro que si seafood restaurant.

If anyone has any information, I'd appreciate it. Thanks

Building a community in Costa Rica-magical land for sale

We are 6-year burners and moved to Malpais, Costa Rica 2 years ago to live away from the restraints that the US has put upon our daily lives. We searched and bought a 70-acre coastal farm that we are now developing and making into a community for people like us.

The community development consists of 9 lots ranging in sizes from 0.8 acre to 2 acres per lot. Although it is only 1.5 miles from the beach, the area is still remote and offers the freedom to anyone interested in green living, such as solar, rain catchments, wind power and gardening.

The land is located in Malpais (http://www.malpaisbeach.com/, http://www.malpais.net/). This area is unbelievably gorgeous and unlike any other place on earth. There are many growing international communities around and has the neighboring town of Santa Teresa, which
is a booming surf town with pristine beaches.

Last December, the Manifesto gathering was held here. www.puresolv.com/manifesto. As a result, many burners and tribes are migrating down here, creating an even more unique vibe and lifestyle. The feeling of freedom is unlike anything else in the world. The ability to be in dense jungle then to jump on a quad and surf the beast break within minutes is incredible. The ocean is warm, the trees are green, and nature is abundant. You have the ability to create what you want and not be guided by others telling you rules and restrictions.

The land is situated in the valley of Malpais. The views are endless sweeping views of ancient trees, Cabo Blanco Nature Reserve and landscape that is similar to Lord of the Rings. Monkeys and parrots are everywhere and the feeling is breathtaking. The large river that runs through the property reminds us of the Amazon.

Costa Rica has no military, welcomes foreign investors and has incredibly low property taxes. It is a two hour flight to Florida and four hours to LA .

Our prices are all below 90k, some as low as 30k for smaller sizes and profits will go back into the land to build better roads, infrastructure and eco projects. This is land owned by mother earth but trusted to us.

If interested, email us at martin_folb@puresolv.com for questions.

The Kindred Spirits Meet!

The Kindred Spirits Meet!

Saturday Morning on October 28th at - 11am
All Friends of the Earth and other Kindred Spirits
will be welcome at the Meet.

We wait for the others out in front of the
Jack London Lodge Restaurant area
which is now called Wolf House and that is right
in the middle of town in Glen Ellen which is
just about 45 miles north of the
Golden Gate Bridge.

Many Directions:

Go north from the Golden Gate Bridge
and take the HWY 37 exit East towards Vallejo
and then before you get there take a left up 121
and then just keep going in a northerly direction
and on up Arnold Drive into Glen Ellen.

The place is right in the middle of town.

All are welcome to come who come in good spirits.
All True Friends will be
welcomed and your voice does need to be heard
before it can be fully appreciated.

And this might be another one of your
missed opportunities to meet up with
some of the truly awesome visionaries
here within the heart of this entire
movement and to begin your own
personal journey of finding your own
Home Place of Peace right
here on the Beautiful Mother Earth
with some of the other fine
folks and amidst many other wonderful
projects where you can help to make the magic work.

You bring your own healthy and happy faces to
this Meet with a vision of an Earth Restored
And a World at Peace with T.

It's all Positive and Constructive.
Networking with a Purpose.
Collaboration and Companionship is Key.

You are welcome to Freely Share
your own most elegant wishes and good ideas.

This is the place to make your Contributions known
and I want you all to be there who really care
because Freedom Starts right here.

This is what the real Magic is all about.
We can make it all happen by combining
our own intentions to collaborate together
into a larger whole which will be bigger than
just the sum of its parts.

This is also a connecting point
for people to make a few real
friendships that will last forever.

These are just the beginnings.
What will happen after you have left is that
the Real Magic will then begin to happen.

In this way it can begin to grow like a Tree.

We must begin to reach out to find
all the others in a way that does
not overstretch our own
personal resources to the brink.

By sharing the job it works better and becomes
easier.

I am just one on the smaller branches on this Tree.
There are many others who have also begun to appear.

We do need to hear your kind words
as true collaborators towards
creating a new world.

We're all Children here on this Tree
who are here to create new things for all to share.

There is a Magic and an Art to the
way that we must learn to follow.
We are just the Children of the Earth
and we are going to have to become
truly magical children who can work
with some guidance and direction.

I am just one
of the many Children of the Earth and
one day many more will join us for an Earth
Restored and a World at Peace.

The Beginning
of the Integration of the Kindred Spirits
at the Meet is founded upon
the Principle that
the Integration of the energy generated
from the collaboration of
like minds, is greater than
just the sum of the individual contributors.

We are just one branch of this
Extremely Elegant new Tree which is
just one of many within the Emerald Forest.

Who will take their places within
the shelter of one of our many branches
which will be springing up both here in the
Americas and throughout the world.

Then we will then become a starting point
for greater things to come and
a place where people can come up
for related visits, events and get
togethers.

We do need to meet up in the face to face.

The vision is here
and this is what we can do right now.
If any of this really speaks to any of you
then do respond in some depth about who
you are and what you are all about.

new residential yoga community

SANGHALILA DE PURISCAL – THE YOGA VILLAGE IN COSTA RICA

A few months ago we bought a spectacular piece of land of some 21 acres near Santiago de Puriscal, Costa Rica.
(Before that we built and ran the Pura Vida Yoga Center for 6 years.)

It has two distant ocean views of the Pacific, a dramatic close up valley and a mountain view and it is 1000m (= 3000 feet) in elevation, the perfect climate. It's on the road to the beach, just over an hour and a half drive.

The particular advantage of this location is that it's in a very peaceful and gorgeous country area, but only 45 minutes from all the major facilities like cinemas, discount shopping malls, banks, hospitals etc of San José and the Central Valley, 55 minutes to the international airport, on a very good road.

The idea is to create a small and safe community of conscious people who have an interest in yoga, meditation, healthy aging and conscious living, and want to be connected to nature.
The outcome will really depend on everyone involved, and how it evolves is open, it'll be an adventure for all of us.
We are very excited about the prospect of living in such a community ourselves and we very much hope that we can inspire others.

The vision is this: the entire property provides a womb like feeling. It will be segregated into 8 lots of about an acre in size, each of which has a flat area for house construction and plenty of space for flower gardens etc. Three of the lots have 2 house sites on them. We have already put in an access road to all the lots from the public road. The only access to the property will be through an electric gate, so it will be a safe ‘gated’ community.

This also means that as a resident one will be free to come and go, leave the house or rent it out for any length of time.

Each lot will additionally have ownership in a huge nature reserve and a magnificent orchard, both together are 8,7 acres in size, so everyone will own more than an acre in addition to their own lot. The orchard has been planted with mango, avocado, pejibaye, maracuya, cas, cashew, guanabana, lemon, orange, sweet mandarins, banana and papaya trees. As well there are now sufficient coffee plants to produce about 200 kilos of coffee each year; enough to keep the community buzzing through the year!

The reserve area rises from untouched rainforest in the deep valley to flowering trees, hundreds of them have been planted already, and then transitions to fruiting trees in the orchard area.

This entire area will be owned by a company, and each of the buyers will hold an equal share in the ownership. This way of doing things creates bonds between people and allows for an interaction and support with each other on a very practical level.

We will provide power lines along the public road at our cost and so facilitate a much shorter distance of power supply to each lot. Once the houses begin to be constructed we will also provide a yoga practice hall and a huge agricultural water tank.

All the lots are connected with a beautiful walking path to the yoga hall and to the reserve and orchard area. We have already started planting beautiful exotic flowers and heliconias along this path.

There is also space for a tilapia pond...

We think that this will be a beautiful paradise.

Puriscal, the little town closest to the property (10 min.), has already attracted an amazing community of some beautiful alternative people, quite a few yogis, who are doing home schooling and are involved in many other very interesting creative projects.

Buying property in Costa Rica can be a nightmare, with endless bureaucratic requirements making the process a lengthy, confusing and frustrating
experience.

All legal work has been completed to minimize these problems for the purchaser. Ownership of each estate has been arranged by placing it in a
company holding. The buyer simply buys the company and legal transfer happens by transferring the shares to the purchaser.

We can also assist with designers, engineers and builders.
As you can see, the basic structure is there; how it evolves is completely open. It's an adventure!

The 8 lots will be priced between $48.000 and $90.000, depending on the size and location of the lot and if there is an additional building site on the lot.

We are thinking to reserve a piece of our personal lot for a possible small resort of some 5-6 cabanas to maybe accommodate 10 or so students for yoga retreats.

Any questions are welcome. Contact vidya.bolz@yahoo.com (506) 416-3059.

Hello all! My hubby and I are in the beginning stages of maybe moving to Costa. I have a couple of skills/cert. that I can use job wise and am looking for some input. First off I am a certified art teacher (grades k-12) and would love to teach down there. Second I am a registered massage therapist and could also go that route. Any input/suggesstions would be great. We are mainly thinking of the Pacific side since both of us surf. Thanks and have a good one!

Hey all! I have many questions so I hope ya'll don't mind. Hubby and I are looking into land in Costa and we are thinking of initially living in a Pacific Dome. The thing is that hubby has a job that takes hime away for 3-4 monthes at a time. Do I have anything to worry about? Domes can stand 135+mph wind but if someone wanted in they could get in. Thanks for the input!

I would like to know what kind of soil is there. I know MANY things grow very well and am just wondering what kind of work I would need to do ahead of time. I live on sand as of right now and it is all raised beads and imported soil which I don't want to continue to do. Any thoughts?

Help needed for volunteer program

Hey All. I'm looking for some help in finding groups, schools, neighborhoods, non-profits in Costa Rica who need volunteer help. I'm also looking for host families or small B&B's / hotels / lodges to host the volunteers for a reasonable rate and provide at least 2 meals/day.

I run a cultural enrichment (volunteer) program and I have a bunch of people from the US interested in coming down in the next few months. I'm really trying to expand the number of organizations we work with. If you have any great suggestions, I'd love to hear about them.

You can see the current site at: http://helpingcostarica.com

Thanks,
Scott

I would love to go somewhere mellow and remote. Costa Rica sounds nice. I have a bit of money, not much, sure to run out fast, so how will I sustain myself? I don't need much, I don't need modern convinence or creature comforts, what jobs are available out there? How much does it cost to live out there?

Costa Rica on the Travel Channel Organic STYLE!!

Hi all,

For all those adventurous people who love to travel to
exotic places, and care about where their food comes
from and how it tastes, the premiere of our latest
show Edible Adventure airs on Travel Channel, June
26th at 7pm PST/10 pm EST and again at 10 pm PST/1 am
EST. (Check local listings because the time might
change with different cable providers)

Check out the trailer:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IglFGC0PWpU

SHOW DESCRIPTION

Host Stephen Brooks treks off the beaten path and
raises awareness of where our food comes from by
tracing the course of food from its roots in the field
to the plate. In the pilot, Stephen takes on stunning
Costa Rica-in the lush jungles of the sultry Caribbean
and the pristine beaches on the Pacific coast-seeking
out and sampling the country's natural delicacies.

Along the way, Stephen unearths the culture of
sustainable farming and organic cuisine, visiting
rural farmers, remote indigenous villages, and
distinguished restaurants -- all set against the
backdrop of a land where the trees drip with fruit and
its people with soul.

Buen Provecho!

Discovery show seeks off grid expert in Costa Rica

Hi,

Ricochet Films are the producers of the successful ABC series Super Nanny. We're now making a documentary series for Discovery US, which will follow American families as they set up a new life on remote off the grid homesteads.

One of our possible families is moving to raw land in the jungle in either the Tamarindo, Golfito, Playa San Miguel, Nicoya or Punteas regions of Costa Rica within the next few months. They're building an off the grid cabin, and are aiming for self sufficiency, growing what food they can and raising some livestock. Each programme will feature a local wilderness expert, who will act as an on-screen mentor and guide to our featured families when they move to their region, teaching them all the skills they need to really make a success of their new life.

I would really like to ask if you can recommend anyone who would be interested in this on-screen homesteading expert role. Ideally, we need to work with an American ex-pat local to this part of Costa Rica who has really lived an off the grid, wilderness or homesteading life in this region of the state for some time - a veteran jungle homesteader, if you will... We anticipate 10-15 days of filming over a 5-6 month filming schedule (June/July onwards) and there is a fee for the role.

We do have an office in LA, but our initial research for this project is coming from our London office. You can contact me direct on 011 44 207 251 6966 (we're on GMT) or at james.christiemiller@ricochet.co.uk

Many thanks for your help - I look forward to hearing from you soon. In the meanwhile, you can view all of our productions at www.ricochet.co.uk

Best regards,
Does anyone here have experience using Costa Rican lenders for buying property there? Are the terms/rates about the same as here, or would it be better to get a loan from a US bank?

we want to start a small brewery (beer, mead) when we move there next year, so that's why all the questions. just starting the research...thanks!

I have a suggestion to make. It seems really redundant to have a "Costa Rica" tribe and a "Living in Costa Rica" tribe. There is hardly any activity on either one. Why don't we just combine the two? My guess is many of us are already memebers of the other tribe. Any thoughts on this?

I was just in CR for the first time and fell in love. (with the country, that is) I did a month long yoga course North of Nosara (with my teacher from here) at the Hacienda del Sol and then travelled down to Santa Teresa. I am home now and realizing how little there is here for me and so would like to start the ball rolling to live in Costa Rica. I am an entrepreneur specializing in natural perfumery. Ideally I would like to find a simple house on a property up on the hill anywhere around Montezuma or Santa Teresa. I am interested in sharing or creating community on a small scale with a yoga/flowers/aromatherapy focus. If anyone has any tid bits they would like to share- please do!!! Pura vida!

Hi all,

I am in the process of planning a trip from Montreal, Canada to Bocquete, Panama (loose destination - no timetable). Originaly I wanted to to it on motorcycle, but now think I'll do it by car (most likely).

This will require crossing thru (USA of course), Mexico/Belize, Guatemala, El Savador or Hondras, Nicarugua, and Costa Rica. And, my Spanish is extremely limited ... at the moment.

Has anyone driven much of ANY of these countries ... and what advise can you give me regarding border crossings, highway police, stopping roadside, licenses required, etc..

Also I'd love to work or find sustainability along the way if anyone has ANY work or work-for-shelter tips or ideas.

THANKS!!

Peace,

Resources for cheap rental housing

Does anyone know of a good online resource to locate cheap rental housing in Alajuela? Looking for a small, centrally located Tico style residence for around $300/month (or less) for a 1 year period of time. Found a few things in the Tico Times, AM Costa Rica, AmericaBienes, etc, but the majority of rentals seem to be for posh vacation rentals, which I'm not interested in (nor can I afford!). I'm also down there a few times a year - is it better to just wander around and look for For Rent signs?

Presently looking for information on people who have married and are living in Costa Rica. I have been travelling back and forth for some time and we are thinking my life may be better if I just stay in Costa Rica instead of dividing my time. Who has made this leap? Tell me...your story. I want to know if you live in CR full time and find it hard to make the money for the trip out? Meaning visiting home...and everything else. I have a million questions. I live in Canada and Uvita, Costa Rica. I would also like to meet people who are there now, living. I understand I need to make friends. Cj

How does CR compare with Panama or Nicaragua?

I have been hearing increasing input from a bunch of different people saying that Costa Rica is no longer the wonderland that it was 10 years ago or so. They say that many people have moved on, preferring life in Nicaragua or Panama. There are numerous points that they list, indicating some of these other countries have greater opportunities and are structured to make it much easier for an American to relocate and live there.

What are your experiences?
