The beaches are awesome in C.R. There are many to choose from on the Pacific, and the Jaco (pronounced "Haco") is a very popular place. Just be aware of Rip-Tides as they are famous throughout Central America, Pacific or Carib side. Just have to use common sense, watch for tell tale signs and swim with a friend.

Can you say ANTS? There are over eighty different genera of ants known to reside in Costa Rica, and there discovering new ones every couple years! Mosquitoes? Well there are over 90 different species! There are No-see-ums, sand fleas, scorpions, spiders (you'll love the Golden Orbs), and countless other stinging, biting and generally annoying things in Costa Rica! Snakes! Hmmm Lets see, there are 17 species known to be venomous in Costa Rica! With the Fer de Lance and Bushmaster at the top of the potency list. Hey but millions of people visit C.R. and deal with annoyances every year. Just study up (like your doing) and be prepared. Costa Rica is a incredibly diverse place full of beauty & wonder, but like most things in life you have to take the good with the bad. So go, enjoy and relax!

hey guys can anyone tell me ..how bad overall is the pest population in CR? we have our fair share of roaches, squitoes and wigglies here in hawaii..but close to the beach the mosquitoes are usually not a problem. we also do not have sand fleas here. how bout cr? are the fleas, ticks, roaches, etc a really bad problem? how about snakes and other venomous problems?

can anyone comment on things like sewage/maintenance, power outages, etc?

thx and mahalo
