Hello all! My hubby and I are in the beginning stages of maybe moving to Costa. I have a couple of skills/cert. that I can use job wise and am looking for some input. First off I am a certified art teacher (grades k-12) and would love to teach down there. Second I am a registered massage therapist and could also go that route. Any input/suggesstions would be great. We are mainly thinking of the Pacific side since both of us surf. Thanks and have a good one!

Kate - I just saw this in the Tico Times classifieds:

    >>>MASSAGE Therapist/ Esthetician. Spa service company is looking for highly trained and professional female massage therapist/ esthetician willing to relocate in Manuel Antonio CR. English speaking, reliable, and willing to grow professionally. International training preferred. Send resume and picture to evebolo@yahoo.it

It is not legal for a foreigner to work for a wage in CR, but I know a lot of people have found ways to get around that and make a living there.

Thanks for the heads up :) Foreigners can't get work visas either?
I have never been but it keeps popping up as we look for a new place to live. Hopefully next summer we will take a surf trip down and go from there.

No, you may only get a work permit if you have a specialized skill that no one in Costa Rica has, and even then they are issued very rarely. A lot of people end up starting their own business, although if I understand correctly, you may not *work* for your own business.

You can own a business as a tourist, but you can't pay yourself a salary. But you can pay yourself out of the profits, which of course amounts to the same thing. Where there is a will, there is a way!

Kate, I just met with the folks that I am housesitting for for 2 months in Nosara over the holidays. The wife does massage at a nearby B and B, and so the B and B looking for a massage therepist to fill in for her while she is gone. I suspect things like that would come up quite often - I would guess you wouldn´t have too much of a problem here!

      Hey Nimbus...
I am a massage therapist and yoga instructor...I am heading down to Costa Rica now (from Puerto Escondido, Mexico) to work on an organic farm near San Isidro for a bit (I have committed to one month). I need a bit of a break from massage-yoga work...but down the road, within the next couple of months, am quite interested in any opportunities in that region...I´ve been working here in Mexico but am ready for a shift. This company, as far as you know...are they looking for just one person...and any idea on time-frames? Do they need someone immediately? Gracias...Carie

It would be mid-November through end of December in Nosara. It's called Villa Mango Bed and Breakfast - very cute place. Contact Anyas (not sure if that's the correct spelling of her name). Their email address is villamango@racsa.co.cr.

And I'll be house sitting right next door during that time, so I'm sure we'd run into each other if it worked out! :)
